Umm Kulthum

This is the story of a little girl with a powerful voice, who grew up in the Nile Delta and became known as the ‘Planet of the East’. Umm Kulthum’s songs and lyrics brought people together, and when she sang, the Arab world stopped to listen.​

Following a BA in interior architecture from the Lebanese American University in Beirut, Sasha Haddad graduated from the Cambridge School of Arts in the UK with a master’s degree in Illustration. In addition to designing the covers of online and print magazines, Sasha has collaborated with various brands in the Arab world across various industries. She has illustrated over 25 children’s books, and in 2021, founded Bookie, a platform dedicated to children’s projects.​

Saloua Raouda Choucair

She was fascinated by lines and forms that inspired her to create artwork using different materials. Though many did not understand Saloua Raouda Choucair’s art, she believed in it wholeheartedly and became known as the ‘mother of abstraction’ in the Arab world.​

Khalid Mezaina holds a BS in Visual Communications from the American University of Sharjah and an MFA in Textiles at the Rhode Island School of Design. He has shown his work at local and international exhibitions, and worked as a graphic designer and projects coordinator in various UAE art institutions. Since 2018, Mezaina has focused on an independent studio practice, freelancing as a commercial illustrator, and expanding his body of work as a textile artist.​

Mohamed Salah

Since he was a young boy growing up in the Egyptian village of Nagrig, Mo Salah dreamed of playing football professionally. He worked hard and made his dream come true, while never forgetting his roots and the importance of giving back.

Nora Zeid’s visual arts practice revolves around representations of heritage spaces and how they affect people’s relationship with them. As an illustrator, she has worked with Google, Adidas, Diwan Publishing, VICE, and Kerning Cultures, among others. She staged her first solo exhibition, Cairo Illustrated: Stories from Heliopolis, at Taskheel in Dubai in 2021 and her second, Cairo Illustrated, in Cairo in 2022. Nora’s comics have been published in Sharjah Art Foundation’s yearly anthology Corniche since 2020.​
